I think what you're seeing here is a liberal-left legal and media establishment, schooled in the Nixonian era, fearful of Presidential power and scornful of President Bush, who have come to the table expecting that their political beliefs are enshirned in the law only to find, to their fury, that upon objective review the President's powers are must more robust than they would prefer.
